Losing Paradise: From Land of the Free to the Home of the Besieged
kiss it goodbye". -- Eagles, The Last Resort.
It must be obvious to everyone by now that not all of us have thought of America as Paradise. I would disagree, but I am but one man. Certainly I have many allies across this great land, but we have been defeated by an insidious enemy that has captured the minds of our youth. When the young fall prey to these cretins, we lose all leverage. And yes, we have let it happen.
We have actually aided in our own demise, I might add. With all of our kvetching about how hard we work, how we are taken advantage of by our "evil" employers, and how we need more vacation time, we have fed the beast which would eventually devour us. And the real irony lies in the fact that we are never overworked. We, as Americans, thrive on work, and we always have. And yet we willingly gave our children over to the Jimmy Carter Federal Department of Education, and from there it was all downhill.
We gave our kids to the government, and we now wonder how our society has been turned on its ear. And just wait until the current crop of school kids reaches adulthood...let's see how Common Core reacts to the real world. That's just the latest travesty to affect our youth, but the damage goes back several decades.
It is natural for kids to rebel at a certain point in their lives. It is a rite of passage as we begin to mature and develop thoughts independent of our parents'; that we question the wisdom which for the first ten years of our lives we viewed as unassailable. But in the 1960's, the Progressive left found a way to keep the trajectory away from the love and wisdom of our parents going, and many of us ended up alienating those precious ties forever at the behest of evil individuals who cared nothing for us, but rather coveted our young minds. Then, with the passage of the Department of Education Organization Act, the move was on to indoctrinate our young at ever earlier ages.
This is the attack the left has long envisioned and cultivated, and it is almost a complete coup of the American way of life. We Baby Boomers can well remember our way of life as children, and many of us cling to that very notion, where we eventually realize the wisdom of our elders and form our lives and bonds from there. But we are being marginalized by a society we never intended, and being overcome by children we no longer recognize. This may sound a bit like a "Stepford Wives" conspiracy, but there is more to this than mere fantasy.
In the 80's, my oldest daughter came to me seeking help with her math homework. I was delighted because math was my second strongest suit in school. What she presented to me was completely foreign, and devoid of any numbers whatsoever. The problems were something to the effect of, "If this is this, and that is that, and this is that, but that is not always this, what is the correct answer?"
I was stunned and demanded to know what this "math" was called. She told me it was called logic. I didn't complain to the school because it seemed like a new subject I was not aware of, but nothing sinister. Unlike Common Core today.
One must wonder what is behind the thought processes of Common Core? Why would our Federal schools want to make math so deliberately confusing? My theory is that while the schools teach our children all about climate dangers, tolerance for the intolerable, and the evils of their parents, they can pretend to be teaching math, too. Of course, this math will never help the kids balance a checkbook or make change at a cash register, but the schools don't plan on any of these kids working anyway. The schools claim to be preparing our kids for the world beyond formal education, claim to be trying to keep up with the rest of the world, but our kids will be hopelessly lost when they get out of school if "educators" have their way.
And so they will almost all of them be forced to rely on the government to care for them. We're not producing the future of America, we're facilitating her demise.
Now, couple all of this with current events, in which we see a President who refuses to protect our borders, our very sovereignty, and we do indeed risk losing the paradise our fore fathers bestowed upon us and for we have fought valiantly as one for centuries. There was a time in my youth when the very idea of losing America was anathema to everything I believed. Yet now, in the course of a few short decades, and in the immediate sense, the course of only 6 years, I have seen the end draw near at an accelerated pace.
The Left in this country is patient, so patient as to closely resemble the current scourge of radical Islam which now threatens us beyond my every imagination. And it seems that but for a minuscule portion of today's youth, only the Baby Boomers are left to understand this threat. And only we can plan for our defense, if only the young and able are prepared to listen to us. But with a Commander in Chief and a phalanx of maoist advisors decimating our military, the best of our young soldiers will be fighting in the trenches alongside the aging citizens when the time finally arrives.
Folks, it is time to start praying: praying for guidance, praying for strength, and praying for awakening among those who have facilitated this pending tragedy through a misguided attempt to make the world a better place. The world is not ours for which to care.
Our domain is the United States of America, and it is time we started believing in her again before she is gone.

Curses, Foiled Again
I suppose most would think the title refers to the latest failed terrorist attack on New York City, and for that I could not fault them. But it's really a commentary on the ache of the liberal media-ites for which relief always seems just beyond reach. It appears as a hazy mirage, dancing before their eager eyes, and they clutch at it hungrily yet are always left with nothing but wispy tendrils of ether. And the pain lingers on.
In the case of the Times Square bomber, Faisal Shahzad, the benefit of the doubt was not only given to radical Muslims, it was deeply desired. The media went out of its collective way to speculate on every possibility but jihad despite the long-discarded notion that journalism is about facts and not speculation.
The media breathlessly commented on the presence of "a white male" changing his shirt, and Mayor Bloomberg opined on Katie Couric's show that it was probably some nut who acted alone and was "Homegrown maybe a mentally deranged person or someone with a political agenda that doesn't like the health care bill or something. It could be anything." (Translation: probably a right-wing Tea Party guy).
Then the news came out that it was - surprise! - a Pakistan-born Muslim, and the giddy media bubble was instantly burst. Oh, they struggled to maintain the spectre of a "homegrown" man, a "naturalized citizen", they said, but it wasn't long before even that aura dissipated. So invested were they in the hope that it was a right-wing Tea Party guy that the disappointment was palpable, even articulated by some. Contessa Brewer of MSNBC, for example, had this to say:
"I mean the thing is is that and I get frustrated and there was part of me that was hoping this was not going to be anybody with ties to any kind of Islamic country because there are a lot of people who want to use this terrorist intent to justify writing off people who believe in a certain way or come from certain countries or whose skin color is a certain way. I mean they use it as justification for really outdated bigotry. For those who wish to witness the anguish, the video is below:
And so there was part of me was really hoping this would not be the case that here would be somebody who is not the defined. I mean he’s accused he’s arrested you know I don’t want to convict him before it’s time to do so. He’s the guy authorities say is involved. But that being said I mean we know even in recent history you have the Haitari(sic) militia from Michigan who have plans to let’s face it create terror.
That’s what they were planning to do and they were doing so from far different backgrounds then what this guy is coming from. So, the threat is not just coming from people who decide that America is the place to be and you know come here and want to become citizens. Obviously this guy did."
Right to the bitter end the Contessa clings to the claim that "this guy did" want to become a citizen - which is partly true because he did become a citizen - but it is now clear that his intent was anything but a craving for apple pie. For example, he couldn't pay his mortgage, but he could travel to Pakistan thirteen times in ten years.
For a man about to lose his home to foreclosure, he had cash to lay out for the SUV he planned to detonate in Times Square, as well as the materials for the bomb. Then, after being placed on the "no-fly" list, he still managed to drive for an hour and a half from Connecticut to JFK Airport, and buy a one-way ticket, to Dubai, with more cash. And yet no one thought there was anything untoward about this, and he was boarded on the plane.

And now, reluctantly, some media outlets are reporting that he did receive training, which is the final blow to lugubrious reporters who watch the dream of blaming some Midwestern militia for the near mayhem evaporate into thin air. Perhaps they will get another chance in the near future to dream again. But for now, the Tea Party people go about painting their clever signs for the next demonstration in between helping their grandchildren with homework.
Apple pie for true Americans is a sweet treat. Pity that so many among us view it as bitter fruit. Sphere: Related Content

Selective Indignation and Outrage
We Americans live in a country that has been commandeered by the insane. The inmates are truly running the asylum now. How else would one explain the trajectory on which we find ourselves? What possible explanation could there be for the inexplicable?
We have gone completely 'round the bend in an hysterical (and knee-jerk) effort to "protect the children" as a result of Columbine, Virginia Tech, and other tragic events. The by-product has been the implementation of ridiculous "zero tolerance" policies that have produced some of the most bizarre stories, which are then defended by the bizarre people who made them possible to begin with.
There have been a few of these stories of late, in the news, that fit to a tee the definition of insanity. Most recently we had the story of the Ohio first-grader, suspended for keeping the plastic knife the cafeteria distributed to him in the first place. This case is a bit of an anomaly since it is laced with a modicum of sanity, in that the parents are threatening to counter-sue the district for distributing dangerous weapons to children if they don't rescind the suspension. Kudos to them.
Then there is the New Jersey second-grader suspended for drawing a stick figure of someone shooting his friend with a water pistol. Zero tolerance was once again violated in this case, and the kid is in the news. Great.
Right about now, some liberal-minded person is reading this and thinking that these suspensions are a good thing since we can't have the children growing up in a "violent culture". That's all well and good, but I would remind such a reader that our species is, by nature, a violent one, but we have done a remarkable job at suppressing that urge in large measure, save for a handful who never got the memo. Or is it a handful?
For most of the civilized world, that question could be answered in the affirmative. For a very large segment of the psuedo-civilized, it would be a no.
So why do the very same people who clamor to remove weapons or the mere mention of them from our society turn a blind eye to a real threat? And why, oh why can't they see the clear and present danger in schools located in Alexandria and Fairfax, VA?
There was a story a while back about the teachings in a school called the Islamic Saudi Academy. It was alleged that the school was teaching hate, which it denied, of course. So The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, asked for textbooks to examine, a request that was denied. The commission was able to acquire 17 textbooks nonetheless, through other channels. What they found was disturbing.
The Associated Press reports that "Textbooks at a private Islamic school in northern Virginia teach students that it is permissible for Muslims to kill adulterers and converts from Islam, according to a federal investigation released Wednesday."
And an even more troubling excerpt:The commission said it obtained 17 of the academy's textbooks through a variety of channels, including from members of Congress. The texts did appear to contain numerous revisions, including pages that were removed or passages that were whited out, but numerous troubling passages remained, according to the panel:
_ The authors of a 12th-grade text on Koranic interpretation state that apostates (those who convert from Islam), adulterers and people who murder Muslims can be permissibly killed.
_ The authors of a 12th-grade text on monotheism write that "(m)ajor polytheism makes blood and wealth permissible," meaning that a Muslim can take with impunity the life and property of someone believed guilty of polytheism. According to the panel, the strict Saudi interpretation of polytheism includes Shiite and Sufi Muslims as well as Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists.
_ A social studies text offers the view that Jews were responsible for the split between Sunni and Shiite Muslims: "The cause of the discord: The Jews conspired against Islam and its people. A sly, wicked person who sinfully and deceitfully professed Islam infiltrated (the Muslims)."
One must wonder what was "removed or whited out" if those three examples were left in the text books. Nevertheless, this story will probably get minimal attention in the media, and the minimal coverage will be limited to publications that liberals denounce and therefore will not believe that there is a threat at all.
But they will continue to persecute 7 year-old school kids who draw innocuous pictures, and feel that they have served justice while ignoring a virtual curriculum of hate and depravity.
Insanity.
