In what I sincerely hope will not be the last apology or retraction required of me, I must at this point admit that I may have jumped the gun on my assessment of the president's intestinal fortitude in this case. At around one o'clock EDT this afternoon, the U.S. Navy took advantage of Captain Richard Phillips' second escape attempt - when he again leapt overboard - and killed three of the four Somali pirates holding him hostage, injuring and subsequently capturing the fourth. Pleasantly surprised, am I, to learn that President Obama twice approved of "appropriate force" in rescue attempts. Well done, Sir.
